As we reported earlier this week, the two companies are becoming closer in the mobile world. Microsoft took to the stage at Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 launch and promised a “seamless productivity experiences across devices, applications, and services.” Microsoft apps and services will now be more deeply integrated into the Samsung mobile experience. Samsung has been working with Microsoft for several years, putting the company’s Office applications on devices. However, the expanded partnership will now see those apps more integrated into the functionality of Samsung hardware. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYCr4TPE0sc For example, the Galaxy Note 10 series and the Galaxy Book S will have an optimized Outlook app. Through the app, the S Pen can be used with unique features such as short email previews by hovering over inbox items, and access to calendar and contacts.
Further Integration
Elsewhere, Samsung says its Gallery app will start offering users the option of syncing images to Microsoft OneDrive. The company says this option will be introduced during the fall. While on stage, Microsoft also highlighted how the Galaxy Note 10 is now working more deeply with Windows. A new feature called “Link to Windows” provides a direct link to Your Phone through the Quick Panel. Users can directly manage notifications, sync photos, send messages, and more through mirroring their smartphone on Windows. “Microsoft and Samsung share a long history of innovation and collaboration, and today’s announcements mark the next stage in our partnership. Our ambition is to help people be more productive on any device, anywhere – and the combination of our intelligent experiences with Samsung’s powerful, new devices makes this a reality.” Samsung says the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 + will cost $949.99 and $1099.99 respectively. As for the Galaxy Book S, it will launch in September from $999.
