The XR Association is a trade group that combines the shared interests of companies that develop virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) solutions. Among the associations purposes are the “responsible development and adoption of AR and VR globally with best practices, dialogue across stakeholders, and research” while serving “as a resource for researchers, policymakers, and partners across the XR industry.” Microsoft will be represented in the XR Association by Heidi Holman, the company’s assistant general counsel. “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with our industry peers to support the XRA’s mission of promoting the safe and responsible development and adoption of XR technology globally,” said Holman.

XRA has created what it calls the XR Primer, a starter guide for best practices developers should use when creating VR and AR technologies. You can check out the 38-page document here. Included in the paper are guides and diagrams that explain XR technology, which signifies both VR and AR in a mixed reality field. Elizabeth Hyman, CEO of the XR Association welcomed Microsoft to the group: “This is a significant milestone that reflects the growth of the XR industry, which encompasses augmented reality, mixed reality, and future technologies yet to be developed in the rapidly-evolving XR space.
